Terms of sale

The short version: you order a book, we send it, and if something is genuinely wrong with your order, we do our best to fix it. Here are the details.

Who you’re buying from

The hardcover comes directly from me, Alp Tekyildiz, the author (Scheideggstrasse 86, 8038 Zürich, Switzerland, hello@unbiasedstories.com). It is published by Amsel Verlag Zürich and is also available in bookstores; orders on this website come straight from my own stock.

The digital edition is sold to you by Payhip Ltd, who act as reseller and merchant of record for it. That means your contract for the digital edition is with Payhip, they take the payment, they issue the invoice, and they deliver the file. I wrote the book, they sell you the download.

Prices and payment

All prices are set in Swiss francs (CHF). If this site shows you an approximate price in euros or dollars, it is a courtesy based on a daily central bank reference rate, not a quote.

The hardcover checkout, run by Stripe, may offer to charge you in your own currency instead of Swiss francs. That is your choice at the checkout. Stripe’s rate includes their conversion fee, so paying in Swiss francs and letting your own bank convert is often cheaper. Either way the price we receive is the Swiss franc one.

The digital edition is charged in Swiss francs, with VAT added where it applies. Your own bank sets the rate you pay.

Hardcover: payment is handled by Stripe. You can pay by card, and by TWINT, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link and PayPal where those are available to you. No VAT is added, because this is not a VAT registered business. Your card details go straight to Stripe and are never entered on this website.

Digital edition: payment is handled by Payhip. VAT is added at their checkout for buyers in the European Union and the United Kingdom, so the total you pay there will be higher than the CHF 20.00 shown here. Payhip is responsible for collecting and remitting that VAT. For buyers in the United States, Payhip acts as marketplace facilitator and handles state sales tax where it applies.

Pre-orders

The hardcover is a pre-order until the books arrive from the printer. The expected shipping date is shown with the price before you pay, and we’ll email you as soon as your copy is on its way. You can cancel a pre-order any time before it ships and we’ll refund you in full.

Shipping

We ship the hardcover from Switzerland. Shipping costs are shown with the price before you pay, and they are charged in Swiss francs like everything else. Within Switzerland and Liechtenstein: CHF 4.00 untracked, or CHF 6.50 tracked. To the 27 states of the European Union: CHF 22.00 untracked, or CHF 27.00 tracked. Everywhere else we arrange it with you directly, so write to hello@unbiasedstories.com before ordering.

EU orders may be charged import VAT and a carrier handling fee when the parcel is delivered. Those are collected by the carrier, not by us, they are not included in the price, and they cannot be refunded.

Please double-check your address when ordering; we can’t recover parcels sent to an address that wasn’t right.

Standard shipping is not insured. Once your parcel is handed to the post, transit is out of our hands, and we can’t replace or refund copies that are lost or damaged on the way. If you’d like that peace of mind, choose the tracked option at checkout.

The digital edition

After payment Payhip emails you a download link. The link keeps working, so if you lose the file you can fetch it again rather than buying it twice.

Every copy is personalised: your email address and the date you bought it are printed on each page. It is not copy protected and we have not crippled it in any way. Read it on all your own devices and print it at home as much as you like. We only ask that it stays within your household rather than being passed around or resold. This is a two person project and every copy genuinely counts.

Because it is a file you receive immediately, the digital edition cannot be returned or refunded once the download has been accessed. If there is something wrong with the file itself, write to us and we’ll sort it out.

Returns

Hardcover purchases are final. We’re two people making these books with very thin margins, not a warehouse with a returns department, so please order thoughtfully. If something is genuinely wrong with your order, write to us and we’ll do our best to make it right.

The digital edition cannot be returned once downloaded, as above.

Our email list

When you order, either edition, we add your email address to our list so you hear about the next book. You are told this at the checkout, in these words:

“By ordering you'll also join our email list. We only write when there's a new book, every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can tell us at hello@unbiasedstories.com if you'd rather not be added.”

We only ever write when there is a new Unbiased Stories book. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

The legal bit

These terms are governed by Swiss law. Place of jurisdiction is Zürich, Switzerland. If any part of these terms turns out to be invalid, the rest still applies.

For the digital edition, Payhip’s own terms also apply to the sale itself, since they are the seller of record.
