Privacy policy

We collect as little as possible, and we never sell your data. Here is everything we do with it.

When you order the hardcover

We need your name, email and shipping address to send it to you and to answer questions about your order. We keep order records as long as Swiss accounting law requires (10 years), then delete them.

The payment runs through Stripe. Your card details go directly to them; we never see or store them, and no card field is ever shown on this website. Stripe’s own privacy policy applies to the payment step: stripe.com/privacy.

When you order the digital edition

The digital edition is sold and delivered by Payhip Ltd, who act as reseller and merchant of record. You buy from them, so they receive your email address and payment details directly and their privacy policy applies to that transaction: payhip.com/privacy.

Your copy of the PDF is watermarked. Your email address and the date of purchase are printed on every page of the file you download. That is personal data, and you should know it is there: it exists so the file is traceable if it is shared publicly, and it means we do not have to use copy protection that would get in your way. We do not use it for anything else.

Payhip passes us your email address so we can add you to our list, and so we can help if something goes wrong with your download.

When you join the newsletter

We store your email address with Sender, our newsletter provider. Sender hosts its data in the European Union, which is better than most alternatives. We use your address for exactly one thing: telling you when a new Unbiased Stories for Children book exists. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply and ask us to remove you.

We also store the date you signed up, which route you came through, and the exact sentence you agreed to, so that we can always show what was actually agreed.

When you order a book, about that same list

We add your email address to that same list, so you hear about the next one. We say so at both checkouts before you pay, in these words:

“By ordering you'll also join our email list. We only write when there's a new book, every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can tell us at hello@unbiasedstories.com if you'd rather not be added.”

It works exactly like the newsletter above: only news about new books, an unsubscribe link in every email, and you can ask us to take you off the list at any time by writing to hello@unbiasedstories.com.

When you use the contact form

The form is handled by Formspree, which forwards it to us. We receive your name, email and message and use them only to reply.

The website

The site is hosted by Vercel, whose servers keep standard technical logs for security.

We use Umami for analytics, loaded from its European endpoint, to see which pages are visited so we can make the site better. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t track you across other websites, which is why there’s no cookie banner on this site. Nothing on this website sets a cookie at all.

To show you an approximate price in your own currency, the site reads the country your connection appears to be in, from a header our host adds to the request. That happens on our own server, nothing is sent to a third party, nothing is stored, and no cookie is involved. If you correct the guess with the currency buttons, that choice is held in your browser’s memory for as long as the page is open and is forgotten when you close it.

Who we share data with

Only the services needed to run the shop: Stripe for hardcover payments, Payhip for digital sales and delivery, the post for delivery, Formspree for the contact form, Sender for the newsletter, Vercel for hosting and Umami for analytics. Nobody else, and never for advertising. Some of these providers process data outside Switzerland; where that happens, it’s covered by standard data protection safeguards.

Your rights

You can ask us any time what data we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted (except records we’re legally required to keep). Just write to hello@unbiasedstories.com or use the contact form.
